Champassak is a small town located around 40km from Pakse and you need to catch a ferry across the Mekong river. A decade ago, there were taxi boats to transport people from Pakse to Champassak but it no longer operates because a good road is built from Pakse to the ferry port.
The main road in Champassak starts from the ferry and runs along the bank of the Mekong river. This is the only paved road in Champassak and there are rice fields, houses, small shops and guesthouses along this road. Champassak is well known for the site of an ancient temple called Wat Phu, which is listed as a World Heritage site. |
